All - OK guys here's the report of last nites ride after I took the piston out once again and this time sprayed it down good with heat resistant CLP. Took of on my 90 mile loop and originally at the beginning of the ride the carb worked perfectly. About half way around there was one stretch of road where I get up onto I-135 for a few miles and getting up to turnpike speed I did notice a hesitation but it pulled right out of it. I assume the slide freed itself and worked free lifting to get onto the main jet. All was ok for another 20 or so miles before I stopped at a little town to drink a chocolate milk at their local grab'n'run. After the stop the piston again went into lock up mode and never freed itself again on the ride home. So, David was apparently right about the use of lubricant on the piston, it's an exercise that has no apparent value. However I did seem to pick up a couple more mph before it does its lock up thing. I am now more convinced than ever a lot of Savage problems reported on this site are directly related to the Mikuni carb vacuum piston/slide.
